DoDEA employs more than 12,500 individuals responsible for the education of more than 86,000 students in schools located in 12 foreign countries, seven states, Guam and Puerto Rico. DoDEA is responsible for the oversight of two distinct educational systems, the Department of Defense Dependents' Schools (DoDDS), DoDEA's overseas schools and the DoD Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS), DoDEA's domestic school system. DoDEA is responsible for providing a quality education from pre-kindergarten through grade twelve for the eligible minor family members of DoD military and civilian personnel on official assignments.

As a Administrative Officer you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Plan, manage, direct, and coordinate budget formulation, analysis, and execution.
  • Manage manpower support for the School and directs the review of on board strength against work years and authorizations and assures full coordination with Headquarters.
  • Oversees the civilian personnel actions for the school, coordinate Requests for Personnel Action (RPA's), provide technical advice and assistance to Principal on filling positions, developing new position descriptions, and related issues.
  • Administer the student registration, student attendance, academic records maintenance, tuition status, and other related processes.
  • Work directly with the Student Meal Program and coordinates District Wellness Plan.
  • Perform property management and accountability and central purchase of equipment, as well as central forms and supply management.
  • Direct the preparation of reports, to include monthly strength reporting as well as other special reports for customers, the headquarters, or school management. Manage the operation of the mail and file function for the school.
  • Manage the provision of other management analysis services, to include space management, management controls reviews and studies, quality and productivity improvement, facilities maintenance and repair, and support agreement programs.
  • Develop and/or implement school security procedures, brief and train school personnel on procedures, and ensure procedures are followed.
  • Assist the asbestos coordinator, ensuring that annual notification letters are distributed, annual training is completed, six month surveys are conducted and all facilities maintenance and repair work is coordinated with the existing asbestos containing material (ACM) locations.


  • Overseas tour of duty for Administrative Officer position is projected to be 36 months*. *
  • You will be required to sign a transporation agreement.
  • Pre-appointment overseas medical examination and security clearance will be required for selected candidates and dependents who may accompany member on overseas assignment. Medical clearance must be maintained and renewed at a minimum of every 2 years as a condition of employment for overseas rotations.
  • Medical Care: Applicants who have family members with special medical needs should ensure that prior to accepting a position overseas their family members' medical needs can be met. Access to care in a military treatment facility may not be available to civilian employees except on a space available basis. Consequently, host nation medical facilities may be the only care available. The availability and level of care at host nation medical facilities will vary by location.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in direct deposit/electronic fund transfer in accordance with DoD Regulation 7000.14.R.
  • Individuals hired from the Continental United States (CONUS) and their family members (who are US citizens) are required to obtain Official Passports prior to departure to the overseas area.
  • May be required to travel by military and/or commercial aircraft to a variety of overseas locations for meetings and conferences.
  • May be subjected to a variety of environmental conditions typical of the overseas areas in which traveling, to include the potential for exposure to acts of terrorism.

Specialized experience required for this position is:

  • Plan, manage, direct, and coordinate budget formulation, analysis, and execution.
  • Develop methods and procedures for the execution of administrative support functions or program operations.

Time-in-Grade Requirements: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements for merit promotion consideration. Time-in-grade is the 52-week requirement Federal employees in competitive service, General Schedule (GS) positions at GS-5 and above must serve before they are eligible for promotion (advancement) to the next grade level.
