Job Description

The Senior Project Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing the financial integrity and contractual obligations of the Enrollment projects. The Manager will have oversight for all Enrollment activities in the project accounting environment and will perform moderately complex accounting. The Employee will also be responsible for communicating with the Senior VP, other senior management & PMO management within the business unit to provide financial insight & reporting on the performance of Enrollment projects. Ensures the project fulfills all obligations in a timely & economic manner in accordance with the Company’s policies and goals. Candidate must be able to understand revenue package structure. The Project Accounting Manager will also be responsible for maintaining monthly operating reports, attending project review meetings, and taking on various special projects as requested by the Corporate Controller. This individual will manage a team of 4 and will work closely with the Program Management and regularly communicate and collaborate with Project Managers and other regionalized divisions.

This position will be required to develop and provide consolidated reporting for multiple projects and financial / operational contacts within the organization. Ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and project accounting experience in a software development company.

Essential Job Functions (includes but is not limited to):

  • Provide leadership; develop, oversee, review work, etc. of enrollment finance team.

  • Review, post and approve Enrollment Accrual for Revenue / COGS

  • Complete revenue recognition templates on new contracts/projects

  • Manage timely closing and ensure proper accounting treatment, including project accounting; review/analyze results; resolve issues; maintain and communicate closing schedules; strive to improve efficiency and communication among all stakeholders. Review financials for accuracy, project reviews with PMs, review the ERP for revised ETCs (assist PM with the understanding of ETC importance), journal entries and review of account reconciliations

  • Provides information for cash flow forecasting for their clients as well as expense and time reporting to the operations

  • Review and approve new project booking packages; responsible for ensuring contract amounts are properly maintained

  • Review invoicing and project set up

  • Maintain detailed schedules of unbilled receivables.

  • Translates Project Working Capital financial information and assist the project team in understanding the process

  • Assists in the annual audit by providing information and answering questions as requested

  • Review Enrollment CIP/WIP/margin reports; discuss any projects that are over budget or have excessive unbilled revenue / costs in excess of billings (CIEB) or unusual deferred revenue / billings in excess of costs (BIEC) balances

  • Identifies and communicates monthly variances for both earnings & cash with Director of Business Analysis in Nashville

  • Works closely with FP&A Director to understand and support Budget and Forecast for Enrollment

Note: In addition to the Essential Functions, also performs similar work-related duties as assigned.

Required Skills

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • General understanding of revenue recognition concepts as they relate to the software and point of sale industry

  • Project accounting experience a plus, must have solid financial analytical and problem solving skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite products (above average Excel skills required). Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently.

  • Understanding of financial terms related to software development.

  • Excellent customer service attitude, communication skills, and interpersonal skills both internal and external to the organization.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to make timely and sound decisions.

  • Mentors and supervises project and service support employees and functions as assigned

  • Qualifications, Education and Experience:

  • BS in Accounting or Finance, an MBA degree preferred, CPA a plus

  • 8+ years of progressive industry experience working in a fast paced environment required, prefer experience with similar size US based software company.

  • Experience with fixed price or software revenue recognition issues preferred

  • Hands on Project Accounting experience working with contracts, change orders, project estimates working in a government contracting environment a plus

  • 4+ years of experience managing team of at least 3 preferred

  • Experience with a mid to large ERP system, MS Dynamics ERP system (Great Plains) preferred

  • Prior ERP implementation experience preferred

Travel Requirement, Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to travel occasionally by air as needed to attend meetings with Enrollment Support team, training, conferences, and related activities.
