Philips Head of R&D, Cardiology Informatics in Best, Netherlands

Your challenge

Cardiology is one of the four growth pillars of Philips. We recently launched our new platform IntelliSpace Cardiovascular that has been received very well by customers globally. To accelerate our growth ambition of doubling our business by 2020 we are currently looking for a head of R&D. A unique position that allows you to build solutions that directly help care professionals around the world to better take care of their patients.

Your responsibilities

Be the R&D head and leading member of the management team of Cardiology Informatics (CI).

Lead all People management aspects of a large (over 120 engineers), global, multi-site engineering organization, based in the high-tech community is southern Netherlands with R&D facilities in NL and Brasil.

Establishes, communicate and maintains CI technology architecture for production technology systems, and ensures that the architecture can support the growing and changing needs of the business.

Guide long term direction of technological planning and development. Formulates long term vision, managing the capabilities of the department, motivates and inspires a large global team of Researchers or Developers to add maximum value to Philips.

Be a leading member in the business executive leadership, driving and influencing strategic and tactical business wide initiatives.

  • Short and long term, makes sure that the organization can meet the objectives and ensures that the roles and responsibilities are put in place.

  • Formulates and implements longer term vision/direction/strategy: steering the group to add maximum value to the business in the future. Content-wise inspires and contributes to cross-organizational strategy and project teams working on innovation themes and breakthroughs.

  • Manages capabilities of the organization; to develop and maintain a long term view on the required competences and knowledge to introduce new technology. Ensures that there are adequate resources and tools at the proper time, is responsible for the technology and architecture in the department, and is responsible for maintaining and improving the department’s knowledge and expertise.

  • Ensures appropriate personnel management practices regarding recruitment and selection, adequate staffing, remuneration, performance appraisals, education and training, and management development policy.

  • Ensures an engaged, innovative, and inspiring working environment in the department by motivating, challenging, and coaching the department 's employees towards growth

  • Is responsible for achieving operational plans, guides Project Managers/Leaders and ensures the optimal allocation of personnel to the projects and effective project management, Ensure excellent project execution by constantly optimizing project management practices in the department to exceed customer expectations.

  • Cooperates with relevant parties outside of the business. Works across the borders of their own team – e.g formulate strategies or project proposals with internal and external to Philips partners

  • Drives continuous improvement and the embedding of Lean and Agile S/W development practices

Your team

You will be working in Cardiology Informatics (part of Healthcare IT Business group) Reporting to the GM of the business and to the head of R&D for the business group.

The team will be based out of our brand new office at the High Tech Campus – also known as the smartest square mile in Europe – where (large) corporates and startups innovate next to each other.

We are looking for

  • University degree in the field of computer science

  • Extensive SW engineering background

  • Experience in Scaled Agile and Lean

  • Experience managing large global teams (100 plus employees)

  • Expert level knowledge in enterprise systems, preferably in a medical environment

  • Proven track record in multiple, full life cycle engineering, bringing industry leading products to market

  • Advantage to have medical devices/ medical software experience

  • A proven leader with the ability to set a strategic vision and follow through with an effective tactical execution of the strategy.

  • Ability to work effectively in a complex collaborative, matrix environment with virtual teams in a multi-cultural / geographically diverse environment.
