Job Category:Software Engineering: Development
Location:Bellevue, WA, US
Division:Server & Tools Business
Are you working on the most important problem in your field? And if not, why?
The Autopilot Systems team is looking for exceptional developers to work on Server Pool.
Autopilot is the distributed operating system that runs Bing, Xbox, and will soon serve as a foundation for Azure and all the rest of Microsoft’s online properties. It manages hundreds of thousands of servers and devices running thousands of services at a massive scale. Server Pool is a key pillar of Autopilot’s future - the Dynamic Datacenter.
The underpinning of Server Pool is a resource virtualization layer which serves to decouple the machine and network abstraction from physical datacenter infrastructure. Breaking this bond presents opportunities to raise server availability, utilization, and efficiency while increasing developer agility at the same time. We solve interesting problems at large scale and measurably impact the business.
We: a strong team of engineers that is responsible for Bing datacenters. We get to write a lot of code, but we also get to wear many other hats: we design and test our own software, and we run it in production. Autopilot has no testers, no ops, and very few PMs. We ship every week.
You: a strong developer with background in systems and great performance history. You have strong background in algorithms and computer architecture. You know C and C++ very well, but are not afraid to debug retail code in assembler. You have shipped software at Microsoft, preferably, online services, through multiple release cycles. Quality is very important to you, and you enjoy all aspects of running a service in production.
- 4+ years of shipping production software
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science
- Experience with distributed systems and fault tolerance
