HCA, Hospital Corporation of America Registered Nurse Manager (RN) - Cardiovascular Services in Austin, Texas
The Registered Nurse Manager (RN) provides supervision to assigned employees in the Cardiac Cath Lab and Day Patient and coordinates unit/area clinical operations with other department disciplines. The Nurse Manager is responsible for day-to-day operations of the areas, he/she directs the activities of the nursing and support personnel in the areas in coordinating patient flow to assure quality patient outcomes.
Plans, directs and controls the staffing assignments in accordance with objectives and policies to insure effective coverage of the department *
Oversees the work schedule for the appropriate areas as needed.
Oversees the call schedule monthly.
Oversees schedule for adequate staffing on a daily basis.
Reviews daily performance, is responsible for keeping department within recommended targets.
Recommends staffing changes with rationale to Director of EP Services.
Interviews and makes recommendation of personnel, has input on decisions regarding promotions, transfers, and terminations.
Plan and direct staff activities
- Oversees and performs as needed, personnel performance appraisals including the establishment of goals for each employee.
Oversees and performs as needed, counseling/progressive discipline for employees when necessary.
Maintains personnel attendance records/personnel files.
Communicates with employees (i.e.: in-service and staff meetings), on education and department/administrative issues.
Utilizes problem-solving techniques daily, acts as a departmental liaison.
Assures that unit supplies, medications, materials, and equipment are used safely, economically, updated as needed, and charged in a timely manner.
Participates in unit activities/operations
Reviews/revises departmental manuals, policies and procedures.
Participates in meetings with physicians and other departments.
Ensures compliance with nursing standards of care.
Provides follow up with physician and patient/family issues.
Assists with preparation of unit budget as directed by director.
Collects statistical data and provides information and written reports, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually.
Oversees as necessary, patient records and charges are complete and correct on a daily basis.
Reviews with Administrative Manager as needed monthly financial reports and identifies strategies to contain costs.
Reviews records and forms as necessary on accordance with hospital Policy and Procedure.
Creates and maintains a clean and safe environment
Observes condition of facilities and take corrective action to solve existing or potential problems.
Participates in Process Improvement activities.
Coordinates with other departments in dealing with worker compensation claims, risk management.
Make Bi-weekly rounds to check equipment cleanliness and appropriate storage.
Monitors narcotic and medication control.
Develop a professional climate within the nursing unit/units
Acts as a change agent through role modeling.
Maintains current professional growth through independent study and continuing education programs.
Participation in professional organizations (HRS, etc.)
Actively serve on hospital committees/task forces.
Participates in unit activities
Participates in budget and inventory control.

Takes appropriate action to prevent/manage accidents in the area.

Assists with orientation of new employees.
Completes Annual Equipment Competency Checklist.
Attends 80% of Staff Meetings.
Attends 90% of Mandatory Education Meetings and In-services, if applicable.
Performs other duties as delegated.

3-7 years of related cardiac nursing experience
One year of supervisory / leadership
Education Associate's Degree in Nursing
Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
