Position Summary The CV Tech demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of adults and adult-geriatric patients in the heart cath lab. The individual demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient population served. Assumes, under the direction of the Laboratory, responsibility for patient specimen testing, quality control, quality improvement, and equipment maintenance.
Primary Duties 1. Participates in assessment and reassessment according to patient's progress and/or unit protocols. Reports findings and communicates all patient information to physician and RN.
Participates in plan of care in collaboration with peers, RNs, physicians and allied health staff using approved Clinical Pathways.
Implements services according to the needs of the patient, physician orders or approved clinical pathway.
In collaboration with registered nurse, evaluates and adjusts care to meet patient needs and goals.
Provides comprehensive direct patient care and ensures a safe and comforting environment.
Actively assists the physician in the clinical management of patients.
Assists in teaching families/significant others of patients.
Always maintains confidentiality of patient, families, and staff.
Assists in discharge planning upon admission and monitors the clinical pathways for variances and notifies nurse of clinical observations.
Demonstrates knowledge and ability to use necessary equipment.
Demonstrates ability to react calmly and effectively in an emergency situation.
Adheres to all Policies and Procedures.
Performs Point of Care procedures in a timely manner according to established policy and procedure. Documents required information and complies with all Point of Care quality control standards.
Education: Graduate of an accredited school with continuing education in specialty area preferred.
Licensure/Certification: RCIS registry required. Must have current BLS certification.
Experience: Three to five years of continuous clinical experience in the Cardiac Cath Lab/Special Procedures Lab preferred.
Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Performs at a proficient level, all tasks within the specialty area. Able to operate all appropriate clinical equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. Able to perform the necessary functions on the facility's computer system.
Interpersonal Skills: Must be able to interact and communicate in English with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and families in an effective manner, exhibiting tact, enthusiasm, and patience. Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
Essential Physical Requirements: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Able to lift/push/pull patients to transport and/or reposition. Able to lift and carry equipment and supplies of 30 pounds or more. Works under stressful conditions, irregular hours, exposure to communicable diseases, and potentially contaminated body fluids and bio-hazardous materials.
Essential Mental Abilities: Requires good communication and organizational skills. Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Requires working with frequent interruptions. Able to comprehend and interpret complex clinical subject matter related to area of expertise.
Essential Sensory Requirements: Requires corrected hearing and vision within a normal range and the ability to distinguish color.
Exposure to Hazards: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases and potentially contaminated body fluids and hazardous materials. OSHA risk factor: Category I. Potential risk of physical injury attributed to moving machinery and supplies.
Age-Specific Criteria: Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills necessary to provide care/services to the age of the patients served in the hospital facility. Must also possess the ability to assess data and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their specific needs.
