HCA, Hospital Corporation of America Pharmacist PRN in Aurora, Colorado

I. Position Summary: This position supports the mission of The Medical Center of Aurora/Centennial Medical Plaza of optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person. Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Director and/or the Assistant Director of Pharmacy, the PRN Pharmacist is responsible for the safe, effective and cost-effective selection and utilization of medications for the patients they serve. The PRN Pharmacist uses advanced knowledge, skills and professional judgement in all aspects of their work. The PRN Pharmacist duties include but are not limited to, attending and actively participating in daily multidisciplinary rounds, providing clinical consultations and clarifications to practitioners, participating in data collection of drug utilization evaluations and pharmacy quality initiatives, participating in various nursing and medical staff committees, providing staff education in the area of expertise, mentoring pharmacy students and residents, responding to Code Blues and various alerts, and maintaining effective pharmacy operations. When need arises, the PRN Pharmacist will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

II. A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current licensure by the Colorado Board of Pharmacy as a registered Pharmacist upon hire date. BCLS and ACLS certifications within first 12 months of employment. Must maintain current certifications.

B. Education: BS or PharmD in Pharmacy required. Graduate of an accredited residency program preferred.

C. Experience: Minimum of two to four years hospital pharmacy experience preferred, but not required.

D. Special Qualifications: Must have the ability to type, must have computer skills and must have effective oral and written communication skills. The candidate must demonstrate skills commensurate with formal training.

III. Degree of supervision required: Involves general guidance and direction by the Pharmacy Director. Employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

IV. Population and Ages of Patients Served: The PRN Pharmacist serves all types of patient populations (neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric) and disease states. This position requires knowledge of growth and developmental needs of patients and families. Personnel in this position must recognize and respond to the behaviors of patients and families in each age category. The employee must be able to demonstrate the special skills required to care for patients and their families according to standards. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training or experience.
