Position Overview

The Senior BI Developer’s role is to examine and evaluate Business Intelligence requirements for various business units across the organization. This individual will use proven knowledge of specialized BI tools to develop data structures as required. The Senior BI Developer is also responsible for proactively generating and reporting structures based on his or her findings, complete with recommended improvements to business processes, operational procedures, and their corresponding data structures.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Define the current business intelligence activities for the development of existing and future reporting procedures and models by charting existing processes.

  • In conjunction with data owners and business units, develop models, procedures, and protocols for business intelligence in concert with company goals.

  • Research, review, and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing BI procedures and develop strategies for enhancing or further leveraging these processes.

  • Develop routines and procedures for end-users to facilitate best practices use of BI tools and applications.

  • Communicate data structure changes, enhancements, and modifications verbally or through written documentation so that issues and solutions are understood.

  • Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed changes to aid management in making implementation decisions.

  • Meet with decision makers, systems owners, and end users to define data requirements and goals.

  • Create prototype BI models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to system programmers.

  • Work with other development staff to coordinate the creation and management of data structures.

  • Prepare and deliver reports, recommendations, or alternatives for improving processes in BI applications across the organization.

  • Advise department and line managers regarding appropriate, effective, and efficient use of organizational BI capabilities and functions.

  • Liaise with various business groups in the organization to facilitate implementation of new or improved BI processes.

  • Oversee the implementation of BI structures in regards to technical changes and change management.

  • Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new processes, and other post-implementation support.

  • Conduct research and make recommendations on BI tools, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Computer related discipline, or equivalent experience required

Work Requirements

  • 5+ year’s experience Business Intelligence and Reporting development experience

  • 5+ year’s experience Enterprise BI/Visualization tools (Tableau, Business Objects, Cognos, etc)

  • 5+ year’s experience of software development lifecycle, deployment, and maintenance

  • Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Excellent verbal, written and analytical skills with the ability to actively listen and effectively understand concerns

  • Excellent customer service skills combined with the ability to solve problems

  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize issues and monitor progress.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Experience with MS Business Intelligence Development Studio

  • Experience with MS Team Foundation Server

  • Experience with Tableau a plus

  • Experience with Qlik a plus

  • Experience with MS Reporting Services and/or Analytic Services a plus
