Job Description

The Senior Programmer Analyst provides vendor application code packet review and validation for an online real-time payment processing system. Responsibilities include production support for the software payment processing applications as well as custom coding around the application gaps supporting our operation. Support includes financial customers and internal JHA groups. 24 x 7 on-call support is part of this job.


  • Card or Payment processing experience

  • IBM zOS mainframe experience

  • DB2 (SQL) Knowledge

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in Assembler language programming


  • ATM/Debit Card payment processing knowledge

  • ISO8583 message forma

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree desired

  • Must be well-organized, efficient, and detail-oriented and be able to prioritize workload

  • Must be self-motivated and able to work both independently and as a member of a team

  • Strong knowledge of the Financial or Payment Processing industry

  • Strong knowledge of Endeavor Change Management System a plus

  • Must be able to communication well and follow instructions

  • COBOL and C knowledge a plus

  • FIS Connex on IBM knowledge a plus

  • Required travel – 10%

  • Must be available to work extended hours as business needs dictates

  • Excellent teamwork skills


  • Capable of reading Assembler language code for review of software vendor code packets.

  • Devises block diagrams, logic procedures and prepares flowcharts.

  • Researches, troubleshoots and debugs existing code as needed.

  • Tests code and fixes to ensure quality.

  • Develops conversion and system implementation plans; implements newly created code and retrofits defect repairs into existing software.

  • Support all aspects of the FIS Connex on IBM Switch application, CMS Settlement system and DataNavigator System.

  • Provides programming support in COBOL or C for various interfaces to the application.

  • Creates all programming documentation; may include defining the system and functional requirements of the product

  • May complete project bids and/or work effort estimates. Interacts with customers to gather system requirements.

  • Must be able to understand cross-platform integration of DB2

  • Adheres to documented departmental and corporate standards

  • Collaboratively works with QA team to ensure timely delivery of high-quality code

  • Collaboratively work with customer support team to resolve or diagnose code defects

  • Must be able to demonstrate an excellent understanding of the information technology environment/infrastructure and be able to identify and resolve complex challenges associated with the work

  • Must be able to effectively analyze and solve the more difficult and complex work related problems by using past experience, research, and best practice information

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be able to modify communication style both formal and informal to match the appropriate level of the audience targeted
